STAGED exhibition banner

Sheryll’s exhibition ‘STAGED’ aims to celebrate performance in all its forms, from music to magic. It will be hung in the bar gallery at The Wyvern Theatre, where theatre-goers as well as festival visitors will enjoy the art. During the festival, there are a variety of fabulous shows to be seen, including BalletBoyz, Nigel Kennedy and Nikita from Strictly Come Dancing.

I’m looking for artists who are passionate about performance to submit an idea or a piece they have already created for my exhibition ‘STAGED’. Abstract or literal interpretations of the theme are welcomed. You could be inspired by your favourite music, band, words from a play or poem, or perhaps an actor, comedian, or magician. You might be inspired by street theatre, musicals, dance, cabaret, or opera. But do bear in mind that your art should not breach copyright by copying photographs without consent. I am looking for expressive work which covers a broad range of performance genres.

Artwork can be in any medium, which can be wall-hung, such as, but not limited to: painting, mixed media, drawing, collage, ceramics, photography, digital, and textiles.

Artist Call out - From 1st - 30th April (midnight)

Email sheryll@skfoxart.com with an expression of interest, explaining how your work is linked to the theme. Send with a clear photograph of the artwork, or a detailed description of your idea with photographs of previous work in a similar style, or medium. Include details of the medium, substrate (e.g. canvas, wooden panel, paper), and framing which you have or intend to use. Include your name and telephone number, or a cv/bio if you have one. If the work will be for sale, give a price or an indication of one.

Artwork is more likely to be included if it is presented professionally, with considered framing. Deep canvas with edges painted does not need to be framed. The artist does not need to be a full-time or professional, and work by artists under the age of 18 will be considered if it fits.

If your work is not selected, this is not a reflection of you or of the standard of your work, but rather that it does not fit with the other artwork in the show. It might be a genre of performance which has had many submissions, or a style which is in conflict with other works.

Key Dates:

Send final images of work for selection by 31st May, if idea has been approved.

Deliver work to The Wyvern on Fri. 12th June, 11am - 1 pm.

Collect work on Thursday 9th July, 11 am - 1 pm.

DROP OFF and COLLECTION

Artwork will need to be dropped off to The Wyvern Theatre on Friday 12th June from 11 am – 1 pm. If you are unable to drop in during these times you can make an alternative arrangement by contacting Sheryll directly at least a week in advance.

The first available date to take the artwork down is 10 days after the festival finishes on Thursday 9th July, 11 am – 1 pm. Please ensure that your artwork is available until this date. If you are unable to collect in during these times you can make an alternative arrangement with Sheryll. Any artwork which is not collected from Sheryll two weeks after this date will be disposed of.

TO SELL OR NOT

The work can be for sale but does not need to be. If sold please be aware that SWAF request a 10% commission. The Wyvern Theatre will not take any payments and will ask people to contact you directly. I will label your artwork with your contact details, so SWAF are asking for your honest response here. Please support the festival.

AUDIENCE AWARE

Dark and alternative art is encouraged, cheesy is not, however as the theatre is a family friendly venue images which are crude, rude, or nude are unlikely to be accepted.

COPYRIGHT

It is important that your art should not breach copyright rules by copying photographs without consent. You may be asked to provide information about the sources of reference you used.

SIZE

Max size – 1 metre along one side or squared

Ideal size - 60 cm x 60 cm approx. It doesn’t have to be squared.

Smaller than 30 cm along one side, please discuss, as I am limited to the number of holes I can make in the wall. We might be able to find a way to make this work.

HANGING

The work will need to either be strung with D rings or have a D ring to hook onto a nail. The hanging will need to be strong enough to support the weight of your work. The wire or string should be fitted in the top third of the painting to aim for it to sit flat against the wall.

DAMAGE or LOSS

The Wyvern Theatre, SWAF and Sheryll K Fox will not take responsibility or liability for any damage to or loss of your work. It is advised that you find your own insurance for this.

Wyvern Opening hours are:

11:00-15:00 / 16:00-18:00 Mon-Sat. and during shows.
